Jamaal Saalik Belt-Daniels

AI Systems Builder · Technical Strategist

I build AI systems around real business problems.

I start with how people work, how decisions are made, where information moves, what breaks, and what still requires human judgment—then determine what the system actually needs.

01 / METHOD

Start With the Problem

I do not start by asking where AI can be added.

I start with what is actually happening and what the operation needs.

  1. 01

    UNDERSTAND

    People · Workflow · Environment

    What is actually happening?

  2. 02

    IDENTIFY

What matters · Constraints · Failure points

    What has to stay true?

  3. 03

    DESIGN

Responsibilities · Boundaries · Human control

What will the system handle, and what will remain human?

  4. 04

    BUILD

    Proportional implementation

Build the amount of system the problem actually requires.

  5. 05

    VERIFY

Real use · Failure · Recovery

Does it still work when reality gets involved?

The AI model is one component of the system—not automatically the system itself.

software · rules · state · validation · automation · recovery · human decisions

Where can I put AI? What does this operation actually need?

02 / PROPORTION

The Architecture Follows the Problem

Not every problem deserves a large system.

Not every difficult problem can be responsibly solved with a small one.

Both are valid.

FOCUSED PROBLEM

RIGHT FIT
  1. INTERFACE
  2. LOGIC
  3. DELIVERY

Use the smallest system that solves the problem well.

COMPLEX PROBLEM

RIGHT FIT
  1. INTERFACE
  2. STATE
  3. SERVICES
  4. INTEGRATIONS
  5. RECOVERY / CONTROL

Add structure when the problem creates the obligation for it.

Complexity when the problem requires it. Simplicity when it doesn't.

About Jamaal

My background in operations, construction, business ownership, and field work shaped how I think about systems.

Real operations are messy.

People get interrupted. Information is incomplete. Conditions change. Tools fail. What happens in practice does not always match the workflow drawn on paper.

That is why I care about systems that fit the environment they are built for.

A system can look good on paper and still fail the person who has to use it.

Bring the Problem.

If something in my work overlaps with a problem you're working on, reach out.

You do not need to know what the technical solution is yet.

We can figure out what the system needs to be.
